"GEORGE EDWIN DRAYCOTT, Wh.Ex., was connected with technical education during the whole of his professional career, and for thirty-one years had occupied the position of chief lecturer and demonstrator in the engineering department of the Borough Polytechnic, London.
He was born in 1867 and served a seven years' apprenticeship with Messrs. F. W. Harmer and Company, of Norwich, on the conclusion of which, in 1889, he began his career as a teacher with the post of assistant instructor in engineering workshop practice at the East London Technical College. In the meantime he completed his technical training, taking courses at the Royal College of Science and the East London Technical College, where he won a Whitworth Exhibition in 1890, and also at the King's and University Colleges of the University of London.
In 1894 he was appointed lecturer and demonstrator in engineering subjects and three years later took up his final appointment at the Borough Polytechnic, from which he retired in 1928. Mr. Draycott had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1901. His death occurred in June 1948."
