GEORGE ALEXANDER KEEFER, born in Ontario on the 10th September, 1836, died at Victoria, B.C., on the 17th May, 1912.
He was first employed on the survey and construction of the Grand Trunk and other Canadian railways, and, later, on the surveys of the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers.
From 1875 to 1886, he was employed on surveys for a projected line through the Yellow Head Pass now to be traversed by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, and subsequently the survey and construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
After acting as Consulting Engineer for the Vancouver waterworks scheme, he was appointed, in 1900, Engineer in British Columbia of the Dominion Public Works Department. He was a Member of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers and served several years on the Council.
Mr. Keefer was elected a Member of The Institution on the 1st December, 1885.
