1912 Private company formed as John Garrington and Sons

1919 Became a subsidiary of GKN

Post-WWI: As one of the largest producers of commercial forgings in Europe, the company built and put into operation a new £2,500,000 Press Forging Division a contribution towards developing the National export drive. As a step towards improving the production and quality of forgings, electric induction heaters were installed.

1951 The company was given a contract by the Ministry of Supply to proceed with the construction of a £2,500,000 Blade Forging Division in a new building at Bromsgrove.

1951 Name changed to Garringtons

1961 Manufacturers of drop, upset and precision forgings, and manufacturers of hand tools, induction heating equipment, precision turbine blades and railway buffers and couplings. 3,000 employees.[1]

1968 New fully-automatic forging plant. Part of GKN Forgings[2]

1986 United Engineering Steels was formed as a JV to take over British Steel's Special Steels Division and GKN's special steels and forging operations[3]
