Gabriel Wade and English

Timber importers

1919 Gabriel, Wade and English was incorporated, amalgamating several old Timber firms (Thomas Gabriel and Sons and Burtons, Richard Wade, Sons and Co, English Brothers, Baynes and Sherborne); Samuel George Hare Dean represented the company[1]. The Company had fourteen depots in various parts of the country, some of which had Mills and Creosoting Works.

1920 Acquired premises in Southampton and businesses in Portsmouth and Poole so was represented in 17 ports[2]

1951 John Livingstone Baynes is MD.[3]

By 1966 still incorporated English Brothers Ltd (see advert)

c.1967 Acquired Dolton, Bournes and Dolton[4]

1968 Acquired by Montague L. Meyer Ltd[5]

Subsequently Keizer Venesta (Sheet Materials) Ltd

Subsequently Southern Timber Co Ltd

2008 Appointment of liquidators (together with a number of other dormant companies)[6]


Presumably later split into a various regional branches
