Mr G. S. Cruickshank had been a member of the Institution for over 60 years when he died on 22nd August 1961 at the age of 87. He was elected a Graduate in 1899 and after serving an apprenticeship with Ruston, Proctor and Co., Lincoln, he went to Australia where he worked for a number of gold-mining firms in the early 1900's.

From 1904-5 he held a position with A.E.G. in Berlin.

He then worked for 25 years in China, retiring in 1930. He became an Associate Member in 1900 and transferred to Member in 1917.
