William Henry Perkin was assisted by his brother Thomas Dix Perkin (1832-1891) to establish a small manufactory to make the new dyes that William had invented.
1856 Company established to exploit the patents of William Henry Perkin in mauve and violet dyes[1]. George Fowler Perkin, William's father, risked the capital he had built up through his building business to fund the company. The works were established at Greenford Green, Sudbury, Middx. T. D. Perkin helped with the commercial side of the business
By 1861 his father (previously a builder) described himself as the principal of a chemical works[2]
1865 George Fowler Perkin died
1873/4 In the face of intense German competition, the Greenford works were sold[3] to Brooke, Simpson, and Spiller[4] [5]
