French Kier Holdings

From Graces Guide

1973 W. and C. French acquired J. L. Kier and Co Ltd to form French Kier Holdings, a private company.

1974 It was found that W. and C. French (Construction) was in serious financial trouble because of existing road building contracts; the Department of Environment made ex gratia payments to the company to enable it to complete the work; plans to reorganise the whole group were put on hold. Kier Ltd was trading profitably. Charles Brand and Son were the group's specialist tunnelling contractor. Another subsidiary was Robert Marriott Group, housebuilders. Simplex Piling Ltd was another subsidiary.[1]

1981 Registered as a public limited company

1986 Name changed to French Kier PLC

1986 Acquired by C. H. Beazer[2]

1987 Registered office changed from Sandy to Bristol. Frenck Kier was in liquidation.
