1946 'The death occurred on Saturday. at Willow Grotto, Caversham Bridge, Reading, of Mr. Ernest William Freebody, at the age of 74 years. Mr. Freebody, who was head of the 300-year-old firm of Freebody's, Boat Builders Ltd., spent a lifetime in boat building, and carried out many Admiralty contracts during both the world wars. In 1926 he was presented to the Duke of Windsor, when, as the Prince of Wales, he came to open officially the new Caversham Bridge. Mr. Freebody was a member of the Ship and Boat Builders' Association and also a member of the Pangbourne Lodge of Freemasons. He leaves a widow and three sons, and the business will continue under their direction.'[1]
