Frank Walker Metcalfe (c1891-1929)

1929 Obituary [1]

FRANK WALKER METCALFE joined the British Thomson-Houston Company in the turbine drawing office in 1915, and was transferred to the contract department in 1919 as a member of the turbine section.

He went to Japan on behalf of the company in 1926, and on his return was placed in charge of the machine section of the contract department at Rugby.

His death on 13th March 1929, at the early age of 38, therefore cut short a promising career.

He was born at Bradford, and apprenticed with Messrs. Yates and Thom, of Blackburn, for whom he was later engaged on outside construction work and as a designer until he went to Rugby.

He took a considerable interest in adult education, and he became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1928.
