"Major FRANK RAVEN WARD, R.E.M.E., B.Sc. (Eng.), Wh.Sc., was educated at H.M. Dockyard School, Portsmouth, and at King's College, London, winning a Whitworth Scholarship and graduating B.Sc. with honours in engineering in 1941. On the completion of a six years' apprenticeship in H.M. Dockyard in 1940 he was commissioned in the R.E.M.E. After a course of training at the Military College of Science as a fire control instrument specialist, he was posted to a vehicles repair workshop as officer in command.
In 1941, after promotion to the rank of captain, he was attached to the 1st Royal Tank Regiment, and later was mentioned in despatches. Major Ward, whose untimely death on 17th October 1946 terminated a promising career at the early age of twenty-seven, was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1940 and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1944."
