FRANK PERCY RUDDER was born in Barbadoes on 5th November 1874, and received his early education locally, coming subsequently to England and attending the Technical College, Derby.
He served his apprenticeship, 1893-96, with Messrs. George Fletcher and Co., of Derby, and subsequently spent two years, 1896-98, with Messrs. Clench and Co., of Chesterfield.
The next two years, 1898-1900, saw him in Colombia, as Chief Mechanical Engineer to the Darien Gold Mining Co., at the Carra mines, and then after a short spell in England as Superintending Engineer with Messrs. Heenan and Froude, of Manchester and Birmingham, he again visited Colombia in the interests of the Darien Company to carry out the erection and installation of an extensive power plant.
On returning to England he spent six years with Messrs. Heenan and Froude followed by about the same period with his old firm at Derby, Messrs. George Fletcher and Co., with whom he had served his apprenticeship, and he then practised for many years as advisory and consulting engineer to various sugar companies in the West Indies.
He died on 23rd February 1925, on board ship, off Kingston, Jamaica, in his fifty-first year.
He became an Associate Member of this Institution in 1901, and a Member in 1910.
