Born at Newton Abbot the son of Charles Matcham (1826–1888), a brewer, and his wife, Elizabeth Lancaster (1830–1905)

Apprenticed to George Soudon Bridgman

1875 Joined the architectural practice of Jethro Thomas Robinson and later married his daughter

1879 Designed the Elephant and Castle Theatre

Formed Matcham and Co

1892-1912 when he worked extensively for Moss Empires

1900 Designed the London Hippodrome

1901 Designed the Hackney Empire

1903 Designed the London Coliseum

1903 Designed the Shepherd's Bush Empire Theatre

1910 Designed the London Palladium
