1807 Born in Paddington the son of Peter Giles, Surveyor and civil engineer,

Early engineer on the London and Southampton Railway

1841 Mentioned as Frank Giles, civil engineer, of Gray's Inn Square.[1]

1843 Mentioned. 'Mr. Frank Giles, a talented engineer, who has been twice to Panama for the purpose of surveying the isthmus, and of ascertaining the easiest and least expensive mode, as well as the direct line across it...'[2]

1849 August 8th. Married at Paddington to Jane McCormick

1850 May 31st. Birth of his son (no name), at Farway Road, Bayswater.[3]

1851 Living at 33 Gower Street, St. Martin in the Fields, Mddx: Francis Giles (age 44 born Paddington), Civil Engineer. Also his wife Jane Giles (age 36 born Scotland) and their son Frank Giles (age 10 Months born Paddington). Three servants.[4]

1854 Mentioned as the engineer of the European and North American railway in new Brunswick.[5]
