When the plant of Usines G. Derihon in Belgium was occupied by Germany in the First World War, its managing Director, J. Julien, escaped to Britain with his co-directors and certain key personnel. They were able to start up production at the Openshaw works of B. and S. Massey, drop forging components from 'BND' steel supplied Thomas Firth and Sons. In 1919 Firth decided to start a new business, Firth Derihon Stampings Ltd, under the guidance of J. Julien. [1]

1937 Drop forgers and stampers. "B N C", "B N D" Alloy Steels. "F.D.V.I." Alloy Steels. [2]

1959 Increased capacity at Darley Dale Works. Large consumer of special steels produced by Thomas Firth and John Brown.[3].

1961 Manufacturers of drop forgings, stampings and pressings in high stress, heat resisting alloys for aircraft and automobile industry and nuclear power stations. 650 employees. [4]
