Fambridge

South Fambridge, in Essex, was probably home to Britain’s first ever airfield.
1909 The Airfield was founded in February by Noel Pemberton-Billing as a "Colony of British Aerocraft". It had previously been home to a hydraulic crane factory, but the planes became "bogged down," quite literally, in the marshy landing area and the site closed in November of the same year.
Some of the houses Pemberton-Billing built for aviation experimenters are still standing.
Some mention of Handley Page having a factory here but unsure of the source of this information.
