Ernest Walter Knott was born in 1890 and received his engineering training with Clement Talbot, Ltd., and at Finsbury Technical College. He held various positions, both in this country and abroad, before joining H. M. Hobson, Ltd., in 1934 as Designer and Lecturer.

At the commencement of the war he went to America on engineering work and died there on 3rd September, 1942. He was 52.

He was elected an Associate Member in 1923 and transferred to Member in 1931.
