ERNEST JUST FLINDT served his apprenticeship with the North-Eastern Marine Engineering Company, and the Wallsend Engineering and Slipway Company, and was associated with marine engineering throughout his career.

He first went to sea in 1880, gaining the Board of Trade's first-class certificate, and in 1891 he joined Messrs. Westgarth, English and Company, Middlesbrough, as works manager.

In 1900 he went to Cardiff to commence practice as a consulting engineer.

During the War he represented the French underwriters in the Bristol Channel ports. He was nautical assessor to the County Court of Glamorgan, Admiralty Division, until his death.

He was also Deputy-Consul of Venezuela at Cardiff and Newport, consulting engineer to Messrs. Nelson, Donkin and Company of London, and of Messrs. E. Handcock of Cardiff.

He was born in Falmouth and died on 14th September 1929, at the age of 70.

He had been a Member of the Institution since 1901.
