ERNEST ARCHIBALD BUGG was engaged on work for the Admiralty at the works of Messrs. Elliott, Brothers, Lewisham, at the time of his death which occurred on 31st March 1941, in his fifty-seventh year.
He received his technical education at the East London College and served his apprenticeship from 1898 to 1906 in the workshops and drawing office of Messrs. Yarrow and Company, Poplar. After holding appointments as a designer of printing machines for the Continuous Counter Check Company, and as draughtsman to Mr. A. R. Brown, consulting engineer, he became engineer and draughtsman to the Blackwall Ironworks, Ltd. He joined The India Rubber, Gutta Percha and Telegraph Works Company at Silvertown in 1908, and was engaged in the design of rubber manufacturing machinery. Subsequently he was promoted to be engineer controller, a position which he held until 1933.
Mr. Bugg was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1917.
