Served apprenticeship with Cammell Laird and Co., Ltd.; held various posts in Chief Mechanical Engineer's Department of Buenos Aires Western and Buenos Aires Great Southern Railways, including subsidiary road trans port undertakings and work with Argentine Broad Gauge Standards Committees; served with Royal Indian Engineers, 1942-46, as Assistant Director of Transportation (Assam), Assistant Director of Transportation (Madras), C.O. Construction and Maintenance Group and Assistant Director of Transportation (Railways) with Allied Land Forces South East Asia, as Lt.-Col.; three times mentioned in Dispatches; re-gazetted Royal Engineers and commanded No. 18 Railway Group, R.E. (AER) with rank of Colonel; on sale of British-owned railways in Argentina returned to England in 1947 as Assistant Technical Director of British Standards Institution.
