Established in 1800 by Joseph Ellis. Joined by Joseph Ellis (son) in 1830; (2) William Paramore (d.), 1845. Present Principal: Joseph William Paramore (since 1880). Commenced as Manufacturers of Surgical Instruments. Later developing Surgical and General Orthopaedic Appliances.

1914 Premises: Four storey building forming a square and covering a quarter of an acre, equipped with modern appliances. Staff: Eighty.
