1890s The Electrophone service was transmitted over the telephone network of the National Telephone Co (later that of the Post Office). It was effectively a cable company.

1920s the service declined in the face of competition from the BBC radio service [1]

1925 The Electrophone exchange was closed on 30 June; closure of the company followed.
