Four AEI turbine generators, each rated at 500 MWe. The condensers were underslung. The three slightly later AEI 500 MW units at Aberthaw 'B' had integral condensers.

Four Bristol Siddeley 17.5 MW gas turbine generators
The design was the "parent" for Ironbridge 'B'. It was said to be an 'ideal' textbook (engineering) diagrammatic layout with clear relationship between the station's buildings, coal delivery by rail 'merry-go-round', and the cooling tower field.
