1930 Obituary [1]

EDWARD NORMAN MACKLEY was at one time manager for Messrs. Ernest Scott and Mountain, but on the cessation of the firm's activities he opened works of his own at Newcastle in 1912.

The business prospered so well that Mr. Mackley was able to open new works at Gateshead in 1915, and he retained the position of manager and proprietor of the firm of Messrs. E. N. Mackley and Company until his death on 18th January 1930.

He was born at Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1875 and served an apprenticeship for six years in the engine department at Elswick works.

He became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1909 and was transferred to Membership in 1925.

He was also a member of the British Cast Iron Research Association, and held many patents in connexion with the manufacture and development of pumping plant, especially of the high-lift turbine type.
