EDWARD ERNEST POLLIT served his apprenticeship from 1872 until 1876 under the late Mr. Eustace Wigzell of Messrs. Pollit and Wigzell, Sowerby Bridge, with whom the whole of his engineering career, covering a period of over sixty years, was spent. During this time he became draughtsman and works manager, and eventually chairman and managing director of the company, holding this position until 1931, when the firm went into liquidation.
Mr. Pollit had had a long experience with slow-speed engines and mill gearing. Many engines built by his firm for paper and flour mills and textile factories are still in use.
Mr. Pollit was 75 years of age at the time of his death on 12th November 1931.
He had been a Member of the Institution for nearly forty years, having been elected in 1893.
