East Usk Chemical Works

East Usk Chemical Works, of Corporation Road, Newport

Later known as Uskside Chemical Works

1916 Requisitioned by the government. New plant was installed to increase production of sulphuric acid used in fertilizers and probably high explosives. Bones and fat were processed to make glycerine for making glue used in the manufacture and repair of aircraft.

Later the works produced paint and solvents

Late 20th century: the works were demolished
