E. K. FLEMING was born on 19th October, 1888, and after serving an apprenticeship to mechanical engineering with the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board, he went to sea as a marine engineer, first on one of Messrs. J. Chadwick & Sons' steamers, and subsequently in Messrs. Elders & Fyffes' boats.

After the outbreak of War he received a commission as Engineer Sub-Lieutenant, and after a short interval was promoted Engineer-Lieutenant, serving in H.M.S. "Glorious," in the Second Battle Cruiser Squadron, under Admiral Beatty, and was on active service in the North Sea for fifteen months. It was whilst on leave from the Navy that the illness which proved fatal developed, and he died on 20th March, 1919.

Mr. Fleming was elected an Associate Member of the Liverpool Engineering Society on 15th December. 1909.
