ERNEST ALFRED HOUNSELL, whose death occurred on 20th March 1945, was joint manager of the London branch of the Brush Electrical Engineering Company, Ltd., Loughborough.

He was born in 1894, and received his technical education at Brighton Technical College, and at the Manchester College of Technology. After serving his apprenticeship with the Lancashire Dynamo and Motor Company, Ltd., of Manchester, from 1914 to 1916, he was for a brief period assistant engineer in the office of Mr. George Ellison of the same city, but in 1918 he was appointed engineer in the estimating department of the former firm, and two years later was transferred to the London office as technical assistant. From 1920 to 1923 he was district engineer to the Morgan Crucible Company, of Battersea. He then began his association with the Brush Company, and successively filled the positions of estimator, London district engineer, manager, and, recently, joint manager of the London branch.

Mr. Hounsell was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1941. He was also an Associate Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers.
