Mr. E. G. Sterland, M.A., B.Sc. (Eng.) (Associate Member) was educated at Bablake School, Coventry, and King's College, London, where he obtained an honours degree in 1949.

He served his apprenticeship with the English Electric Company, Limited, Rugby, and was subsequently employed as an assistant engineer in the Steam Turbine Design Department and Gas Turbine Design Department.

In 1946 he was appointed university demonstrator in engineering at Cambridge University, and in 1949 a university lecturer. In 1953 he was appointed to his present position as Principal of the Bristol Aeroplane Company's Technical School. He was the first Honorary Secretary of the Eastern Branch from its inception until he left the branch area to take up his present position.
