Ernest Ansley Watson (1887-1975)
1887 Born the son of Charles Joseph Watson and his wife Ada Eliza Hipkiss
Studied at Birmingham University; then gained M.Sc. at Liverpool
1909 Joined Morris and Lister
1915 A director of the M. L. Magneto Syndicate
1918 Awarded OBE for his work on improving the fundamental understanding of ignition in engines which led to improvements in ignition system design.
Named on more than 100 patents between 1911 and 1948
1930 Appointed Chief Engineer at Joseph Lucas
WWII Worked on tank turret traversers and on gas turbine ignition which led to the formation of Joseph Lucas (Gas Turbine Equipment), later Lucas Gas Turbine Equipment Ltd. Awarded honorary D.Sc by Birmingham University.
1946 Appointed Director of Joseph Lucas
Moved to Smiths Industries
1975 July 17th. Died at Cheltenham
