"DOUGLAS Ross GORDON, was born in New Zealand in 1908, where he spent the whole of his engineering career. After attending Wellington College and the Seddon Memorial School in Auckland, he continued his studies at the University College in the latter city. His apprenticeship was served with Messrs. Mason and Porter, Ltd., engineers, of Auckland, from 1927 to 1932. He was then in business on his own account as a general and motor engineer for two years. The remainder of his brief career was identified with technical education, his first post being that of assistant engineering instructor at Invercargill Technical School, whence he went after a brief experience to the Ashburton Technical School to take up the appointment of head of the engineering department.
Since 1944 he had occupied a similar position in the same school's trades department. Mr. Gordon, whose death occurred in July 1947, was elected a Student of the Institution in 1930, and was transferred to Graduateship in 1934, and to Associateship in 1943."
