"DONALD STEPHEN LOUDON, who was born in 1898, was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1942 and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1947. He received his early education at Coventry, where he later studied at the Municipal College of Technology. In 1915 he became an apprentice in the Coventry works of Messrs. Alfred Herbert, Ltd., passing through the shops and drawing office. On the conclusion of his practical training in 1920 he was appointed superintendent engineer to Messrs. English Brothers, and a year later was made works manager. After acting in the same capacity for the Carrier Engineering Company, Ltd., for six years, he became managing director of Messrs. M. D. Loudon and Company, engineers, London.
In 1938 he was appointed works manager of the Leicester branch of the Birmingham Small Arms Company, Ltd., where he remained until 1943 when he returned to Coventry and was associated with the Houbourn Aero Components Company, Ltd. More recently he became general manager of British Polar Engines, Ltd., Glasgow, and continued to hold that position until his death, which occurred on 27th December 1947. During the war of 1914-18 Mr. Loudon served in the Royal Flying Corps."
