"DONALD FREDERICK WILD was born in 1873, and received his education at the Grammar School and at the Technical College, Bradford. He served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Thwaites Brothers, Ltd., of Bradford, from 1891 to 1894, and remained with that firm as a junior in the drawing office for a further three years. Subsequently he became leading draughtsman, and assisted the works manager in experimental work. In 1902 he went to the United States, and after acting as clerk in charge of erection for the Hydraulic Machinery Company, of Pittsburgh, and as superintendent of construction for various engineering firms, secured an appointment as district engineer to the Westinghouse Electrical and Manufacturing Co. Shortly after his return to this country in 1914 he was appointed general manager of the national munitions factory at Bradford. On the termination of this appointment four years later he began to practise on his own account in Bradford as a consulting engineer and cost accountant, and continued in this work to the end of his active career. Mr. Wild, whose death occurred on 27th December 1948, was elected a Member of the Institution in 1924."
