Donald Alexander Matheson, M.V.O., J.P., T.D., elected an Honorary Member in 1926, was educated at Perth Academy, and began his engineering profession as a pupil of Mr. John Young. He was, in turn, Engineering Assistant on the construction of the Edinburgh Suburban Railway, the L.N.W.R. at Manchester, and the Lanarkshire and Ayrshire Railway; also Resident Engineer on, the Glasgow Central Underground Railway.

In 1899 was appointed Engineer-in-Chief on the Caledonian Railway, and General Manager in 1910. On the amalgamation in 1923 he became Deputy General Manager of the L.M.S.R. for Scotland. He retired in 1926.

His death took place on 10th December, 1935, at the age of 75.
