In 1742 the brewery was owned by the Flew family before the Devenish family took over the entire site at the building in the 1820s and they continued brewing beer here up until 1985. There were three separate breweries in the area for many years; the smallest, Davis Brewery, ceased working in the early 19th century, and Groves continued until 1960 when it was incorporated with Devenish

1844 Partnership change. '...the Partnership between us the undersigned, Matthew Devenish, William Devenish, and James Aldridge Devenish, in the business of Wine and Spirit Merchants, at Dorchester and at Weymouth and Melcombe Regis, both in the county of Dorset, was dissolved, by mutual consent, on the 1st day of January last; and that in future the business will be carried on by the said Matthew Devenish alone ; and all sums of money, debts, and demands due and owing to and from the said partnership will be received and paid by the said Matthew Devenish...'[1]

1850 Partnership change. '...the Partnership between us the undersigned, William Devenish, James Aldridge Devenish, William Devenish the younger, and Henry Devenish, under the firm of William Devenish and Company, in the business of common Brewers, Maltsters, and Spirit Merchants, at Weymouth, in the county of Dorset, was dissolved by mutual consent, on the 31st day of December last, and that in future the business will be carried on by the ,said James Aldridge Devenish and Henry Devenish, under the firm of Messrs. J. A. Devenish and Company; and all sums of money, debts, and demands due and owing to and from the said first-mentioned partnership -will be received and paid by the said James Aldridge Devenish and Henry Devenish...'[2]

1869 Partnership change. '...the Partnership heretofore subsisting between us the undersigned, James Aldridge Devenish, Henry Devenish, Matthew Henry Devenish, and John Hoppus Devenish, carrying on business as Common Brewers,. Maltsters, and Spirit Merchants, at Weymonth and Melcombe Regis, in the county of Dorset, under the style or firm of J. A. Devenish and Co., was dissolved by mutual consent, on the 31st day of March last. All debts due to or owing by the late firm will be received and paid by the said James Aldridge Devenish, Matthew Henry Devenish, and John Hoppus Devenish, by whom the business will in future be carried on under the old style of J. A. Devenish and Co...'[3]

1934 J. A. Devenish and Co, Ltd., of Weymouth, Truro and Falmouth, have acquired the interest of Mr. James Wickett, Redruth, in the Redruth Brewery Co.[4]
