Stone quarries, of Matlock, Derbyshire

1935 Company formed to bring together stone quarrying assets of Constable Hart and Co, John Hadfield and Sons at Hope, and Caldon Low Quarries, as well as the whole of Greatorex and Son, and Hopton Wood Stone Firms, and Hartington Quarries[1].

1936 Public company incorporated[2].

1959 Acquired Baird and Tatlock (London).

1962 Acquired Padley and Venables, maker of pneumatic and mining tools and hard metal[3]

1963 Acquired 60 percent of Amalgamated Asphalte Companies. Acquired C. F. Palmer (London) Ltd, of Brixton, supplier of scientific equipment for schools and students[4]

1964 Acquired Neuchatel Asphalte Co. At this time Amalgamated Asphalte Companies was owned 60:40 by Derbyshire Stone and Neuchatel.[5]

1968 Tarmac acquired Derbyshire Stone and William Briggs to form Tarmac Derby[6].
