Deptford West Power Station

From Graces Guide

1926-9 New power station constructed by the London Power Co adjacent to the existing Deptford station. It was designed by Leonard Pearce, the London Power Company's Chief Engineer, an interim measure, in anticipation of the building by the company of a 'super-station' at Battersea

The turbine house basement was built in a former dry dock. Initially, the station had two turbine-generators, a bank of coal-fired boilers and a single large concrete chimney at the northern end, with a total capacity of 160 MW.

By 1937 four additional turbine-generations had been added, together with three house sets, additional boilers and a second chimney, bringing total capacity to 222 MW .

Power was generated by 2 x 30 MW BTH, 3 x 35 MW Metropolitan-Vickers, 1 x 50 MW Metropolitan-Vickers turbine-alternators and 3 x 7 MW house sets.

1972 Deptford West closed.
