Deptford East (High Pressure) Power Station

From Graces Guide

British Electricity Authority built Deptford East HP station.

The original Deptford station, by then known as Deptford East, was substantially extended and part rebuilt in 1948-57 under the British Electricity Authority, with a much larger boiler house and a new engine room to the north of Ferranti's building

1953 The extension opened. It had three 52.5 MW turbine-generators (by Metropolitan Vickers) and seven coal-fired boilers.

The original plan had been to demolish the Low Pressure station to make way for an extension of the HP station but this was not implemented because the rapid increase in demand for electricity meant that much larger power plants were needed.

1968 The early parts of Deptford East were shut and demolished in the 1970s.

1983 The later (HP) parts of Deptford East were closed

1991-2 Demolished, including the last fragment of Ferranti's original station - a single arcaded brick wall.
