From Graces Guide

1970 Formed by bringing together of the Ministry of Public Building and Works and the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, together with the Ministry of Transport under the Secretary of State for the Environment, assisted by three junior ministers. One of these assistant ministers was responsible for transport industries, ports, nationalised transport industries, inland waterways, road safety and recreation. He was renamed the Minister for Transport in 1974.

1976 a new Department of Transport responsible to its own secretary of state was established.
