David Knights Whittome (1876-1943) Photographer of Sutton
1904-18, 18 High Street, Sutton, Surrey, was occupied by David Knights-Whittome; ‘Photographer to the King’. From this small shop, named ‘The Studio, Sutton’, and another premises at 24 Station Road, Epsom, Knights-Whittome produced thousands of photographs of local people, places, events and institutions as well as images of country houses, aristocratic events and the Royal Family during a seminal period in British history.
1876 December 29th. Born at Greenwich the son of Joseph Whittome and his wife Eunice Smith
1891 Living at 60 South Street, Greenwich: Joseph Whittome (age 49 born Stamford, Lincs.). Dry Goods Merchant's Clerk and Baptist Minister. With his wife Eunice Whittome (age 50 born Strand, London) and their three children; John J. Whittome (age 23 born Brentford); Ada M. Whittome (age 17 born New Cross); and David K. Whittome (age 14 born Greenwich). One servant.[1]
1907 Married at Hatfield to Sarah Elizabeth (Bessie) Draper
1911 Living at 24 Station Road, Epsom: David Knights Whittome (age 34 born Greenwich), Artist and Photographer - Employer. With his wife Bessie Knights Whittome (age 26 born Welwyn, Herts.) and their son Maurice Gordon Knights Whittome (age 2 born Sutton). Two servants.[2]
1943 November 4th. Died at Bricket Nursing Home, Bricket Road, St. Albans. of Cranwell Lodge, Marshals Drive, St. Albans. Probate to his wife Sarah Elizabeth.
