1922 M.I.N.A., Supt. Engr., Furness Withy Ltd., Glasgow; b. 1866; s. of Wm. Beatson. Ed. Glasgow. Training: Fairfield Engineering Co., Glasgow; and Coll. of Science and Arts, Glasgow. Career: Joined the fleet of Dixon Robson and Co., as third Engr.; became Chief Engr., 1889; for a time with the Nelson Line and R. P. Houston and Co.; appointed Asst. Supt. to the Johnston Line 1895, and Supt. 1904; transferred to Furness Withy, Ltd., 1915, when the Johnston Line amalgamated with that firm; has been their Mar. Supt. at Glasgow since 1919.
