1849 'Treat by an Employer to his Workpeople.
On Saturday night, a tea party was held in Dark-lane Mill, Ardwick, which has been recently taken by Mr. William Hadfield, who, in the true spirit of kindliness and desire for the welfare of his operatives, has, since he entered upon the premises, fitted up baths and washhouses for them, and is about to establish a library reading room.....'[1]

The 1849 O.S. map[2] shows the mill north of Dark Lane, south of William Street, and west of Wrigley Street.
