D. Summers-Smith, BSc, PMD, Member has been associated with lubrication since 1953. Initially this involved research in the fields of boundary lubrication, wear and seals. Since 1963 he has been Tribology Adviser to ICI Ltd and as such is concerned with the design and performance of lubricated and other rubbing parts in chemical plant machinery with particular emphasis on reliability. His publications include a book, An Introduction Tribology in Industry and a number of papers on the lubrication of process plant machinery and particularly with the problems of lubrication in chemical environments. He is currently Chairman of the Tribology Group and serves on the DTI Committee on Tribology.
