Mr D. N. Griffiths was 81 years of age when he died on 6th December 1961. He was apprenticed to Guest Keen and Nettlefold Ltd where he was 18 months in the workshops and five years on the Drawing Office staff.

He moved to Cammell Lairds to become a senior draughtsman and, subsequently, Assistant Engineer of their Workington Iron and Steel Works.

In 1916 he was appointed Head of the Engineering Department of Darlington Technical College and six years later he went to the Verdin Technical School, Northwich, as Principal.

In 1922 he was appointed to the Wandsworth Technical Institute and became Principal in 1928, a position he held for 18 years. Mr Griffiths was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1913 and was transferred to Member in 1931. He was a member of the Education Committee for many years and the Institution has lost a valuable friend and adviser with his death.
