David Macleish Smith D.Sc., M.I.Mech.E

1900 Born 9th June in Elgin.

During the 1914-1918 World War, he served as a private in the Gordon Highlanders, returning to his studies at Glasgow University when he was demobbed in 1919.

1920 His working career began in 1920 when he went to Trafford Park, Manchester, as an apprentice to Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co.

1923 he was a Process Engineer at M-V, and transferred to graduate membership of I Mech E.

1938 Member of I Mech E

Post-WWII Chief engineer of the gas turbine department at Metropolitan-Vickers

He stayed with the company, later known as Associated Electrical Industries Ltd, until he retired in 1966.

1983 David Macleish Smith died on 1st December.
