Coventry Motor Cycle Club

1905 'The Coventry Motor Cycle Club’s success in winning the Fifty Guineas challenge cup presented to the Motor Cycling Club, London, was celebrated at the annual dinner of the winners at Coventry on Thursday evening. It was stated that five clubs competed for this trophy:— The London Motor Cycle Club, the Southern Motor Club, Guildford Cycling and Motor Club, and the Peterborough Motor Cycling Club. The winning team consisted of Mr. R. W. Ayton, Mr. H. W. Duret, Mr. A. Riley, Mr. B. H. Owen, Mr. S. Wright, and Mr. B. Yates. Two further successes achieved by members of this club were those of Mr. Eric W. Walford and Mr. W. H. Duret, the former covering 25.25 miles on a Riley tri-car on one quart of petrol, and Mr. Duret’s performance was 25 miles 220 yards on one pint of petrol on a Singer motor bicycle. The club, of which Colonel Wyley, the commander of the find Volunteer Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment, is the captain, possesses about 50 members. The club will again compete for the challenge trophy of which they are the present holders, and the committee are considering the advisability of entering for other important contests.'
