County Chamois Co

From Graces Guide

John Street Leatherworks, Glascote, Tamworth

Manufacturers of suede and leather garments.

1949 The County Chamois Company Limited, of 47 Boutport Road, Barnstaple, was registered as a private company, with capital of £300, to carry on the business of dealers in chamois leather cleaning materials and appliances.[1]

1957 The firm quickly found Devon an unsuitable location for business and moved to premises at Aston Cross in Birmingham. The company's fortunes were transformed by the development of a chamois leather attached to a stick and sold for cleaning cars.[2] By 1960 the company were operating from Tamworth and appear to have made the move into garment manufacture thereafter.
