Coombs (Beaminster)

From Graces Guide

of Beaminster, Dorset

1858 'Fire. - On Wednesday morning last, about half-past ten, a fire broke out in the workshops belonging Messrs. Coombs, millwrights, &c., situate in North-street. Fortunately it was confined to only a portion of the premises, all communication having been cut off ; but we hear that a quantity of plank timber was burnt, besides two turning-lathes being much damaged. We are glad to find that Messrs. Coombs' loss (about £200) is covered by insurance in the Wilts, Susses, and Dorset Office. The cause of the fire is supposed to have been sparks from the forge chimney falling in a sawpit adjoining the premises.'[1]

I desire to tender my best thanks to the numerous body of friends who have for so lengthened a period and so continuously supported me, and to solicit for my successors the like support. They will, I have full confidence, be found deserving of the same, and will endeavour to execute all orders entrusted to them with economy and despatch.—Yours faithfully,
EDWIN COOMBS.
