Claymills Victorian Pumping Station

From Graces Guide
Unrestored engines in A&B House
Restored C & D engines

Meadow Lane, Stretton, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, DE13 0DA.

A restored pumping station with a remarkable collection of working steam engines, including four massive beam pumping engines built by Gimson and Co of Leicester (1885), all now restored to working order. More than 30 steam engines originally used on site are now operational. Steam for all the engines is supplied by original coal-fired Lancashire boilers, two of the five in operation and one under restoration. Most features of the Grade II* pumping station are original. There is an impressive restored and fully operational (in use!) workshop, the vintage machines being driven by belts from line shafts driven by a steam engine. Open to the public every Thursday and Saturday, and in steam on most Bank Holidays - see the website for details Claymills Trust website.
