Clacton-on-Sea Gas and Water Co
1875 The gasworks were constructed for James Harman, the landowner who had laid out the town. The water pumping station and reservoirs were built alongside the gasworks.
Mr Harman’s Development Company promoted the Clacton-on-Sea Gas & Water Company Ltd. with Jabez Church as the Engineer.
1898 A Special Act allowed the municipalisation of the gas undertaking.
1899 the gas undertaking was purchased by the Urban District Council.
By 1924 the gasworks were making gas using HR and CWG.
1932 A new gas plant was commissioned, inaugurated in March 1933. Woodall-Duckham VR retorts were part of the new plant which included new processing plant.
1948 Further VR and storage plant were added.
1949 Vested in the Eastern Gas Board.
1968 Production ceased
