Christchurch Gas Co

From Graces Guide

1860 A privately-owned gasworks had been established by James John Stevens.

1876 The Christchurch Gas Co. Ltd. was formed and purchased the gasworks.

By 1903 the gas company had been purchased by the Bournemouth Gas & Water Co.

By 1914 gas production had ceased.

A new boiler and booster house was built on the former retort house site at Rotton Row, Christchurch. On the opposite side of the gate a showroom was built. These still stand.
